Mothers Against Drugs Print E-mail

Mothers Against Drugs (MAD) is an organization in the UK and Europe dedicated to keeping their kids drug-free. A nonprofit group, members are mothers or fathers who provide their children with alternatives activities as well as education about the harmful effects of drugs.

In general, though, there are mothers against drugs across the country who often feel like they are single-handedly fighting to keep their kids from using. This is far from the truth. There are a number of support organizations and groups whose sole focus is to support parents in their anti-drug campaign.

Community

Within the community, in faith-based organizations, community centers and neighborhood associations, parents can find support in the anti-drug campaign. Whether it's a support group with meetings in which parents can talk about what they're going through or setting up drug-free functions for kids to attend with or without their families, community groups can provide the forum and the opportunity for an active anti-drug campaign run by concerned parents. Ideas include:

  • Monthly support group meetings to plan functions and talk
  • Work programs for kids: babysitting, lawn care, small home repairs and projects
  • Drug-free cookouts, potlucks and parties
  • Community watch groups to keep kids from using at the facility or in the neighborhood
