ABOUT BOCA RECOVERY CENTER

Located one-half mile from the ocean in Boca Raton, Fla., Boca Recovery Center treats individuals struggling with substance abuse through several levels of care. These include a partial hospitalization program (PHP), intensive outpatient program (IOP), and sober living.

According to its website, the facility prioritizes support for young people, including college students. Detoxification services are not offered on-site, but the facility will make referrals to recommended detox programs. Within the state, Boca Recovery Center is among 24.6 percent of substance abuse treatment facilities that offer a PHP, 43 percent with an IOP, and among 29.2 percent with specially tailored programs for young adults.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

At Boca Recovery Center, the admissions process starts with an assessment, which includes both psychological and medical evaluations. Based on the findings, clients receive customized treatment plans, designed to build on their individual strengths.

As noted, the organization offers two main levels of treatment: PHP and IOP. PHP clients receive a primary therapist, with whom they work with one-on-one and in small groups. As part of the program, they engage in a range of evidence-based modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and trauma-oriented Associative Awareness treatment.

Separate gender-specific and dual diagnosis groups also are offered, along with 12-step facilitation, spirituality groups, life skills training, and case management services. Within the state, Boca Recovery Center is among 53.3 percent of substance abuse treatment facilities to treat clients with co-occurring disorders.

After completing the PHP, clients can step down to the IOP, which helps them transition back to home and community life, and provides treatment, structure, and accountability in the process. IOP clients participate in both individual and group therapy sessions, but for fewer hours than the PHP. This less-robust treatment tract enables clients to focus on securing employment and rebuilding relationships.

Sober living provided by Boca Recovery Center meets the requirements for a recovery residence through accreditation by the Florida Association of Recovery Residences and by the Department of Children and Families. The staff, many of whom are in recovery, provide guidance and support to residents, who continue building a life of sobriety.

My experience at Boca Recovery Center was life-changing from the moment I picked up the phone and called them. I spoke with a man in admissions who answered all my questions, and when he recognized I had specific concerns about the therapy work I would be doing there, he told me that the clinical director would be happy to call me and answer any questions. Within an hour, I received a call from the clinical director, who not only answered my questions, but also spoke to my mother, who had a lot of concerns because of a previous experience I had at a California facility that was very bad. By the time I arrived at Boca Recovery Center, the clinical director came to greet me at the entrance, and I immediately felt that I was going to be in good care. The staff was very welcoming, and I was assured that any concerns about my treatment along the way would be immediately addressed. This program saved my life. The therapists genuinely care about the clients, and you can tell from being in this program that they really do treat you like family. I first made the call to Boca Recovery Center 11 months ago. I am coming up to one year sober next month. I would recommend Boca Recovery Center to anyone looking for recovery.

I called a staff member after my son told me he gave him permission to speak with me about possibly going to their facility. I called and left a vm and received a return phone call stating he was in the bathroom and would call me back, which I found odd, why not just call me back after. So, he does call and we had a very lengthy conversation and I felt like he seemed sincere. He told me I get a phone call as soon as my son arrived and weekly updates. I never received any phone call to let me know he made it there ok and no emails whatsoever. I called several times and he finally told me he was there but couldn’t force him to call me. He then stated he would give me updates when my son was out of detox. I never received any updates whatsoever. My son has been there a month and we finally briefly spoke and he said they keep his phone but his attitude seemed worse that before. I tried calling the staff member and his vm is full?! I sent him a nice text asking him to call me, several days went by with no response so I called again, no answer and vm still full. I texted him again and now he responds, “I can neither confirm nor deny your son is here”. I typed him that he already confirmed to me and I already spoke to my son and had some concerns, he doesn’t respond. I wait for two more days and no response. If my son changed his mind about anyone being able to talk to me, then be a professional and answer indicating you can no longer speak with me. This individual made several promises that were not kept and no communication at all. I can not believe you would be a director of a facility like he claims and act the way he does. My son was not known to have a drinking issue but they somehow convinced him to travel across the country and stay for a month which he now claims is 3 months and they want him to stay in a facility after as well?? It seems extremely excessive considering my son lived with family and had no idea of an issue. He quit his job and has car payments and other bills he needs to be responsible for but they now have convinced him to move there??? I would not recommend this facility to anyone. It seems like they want your money and don’t care about the actual patients there and being professional to their families. This individual completely lied to me and should not be running any part of this and facility.
      Official Facility Response:

I am very sorry for your experience. Unfortunately due to HIPAA and without calling during business hours, our admissions staff does not have access to "release of information" paperwork. So if your child was at our program, the best way to get information is through a primary clinician. Please give us a call if you have any questions!
