Our licensed MH/SU providers are dedicated to help you and your loved ones work the steps toward recovery while keeping mental health symptoms at bay for now and the long run. We are excited to partner with you and your loved ones in this lifechanging journey ahead.

Specialization

  • Cognitive Behavioral Treatment
Clients enrolled in our IOP, acute residential, and/or inpatient treatment at Yellowstone receive evidence-based counseling rooted in cognitive behavioral treatment (CBT) and motivational interviewing (MI). Both evidence-based treatment approaches have been studied extensively in co-occurring populations and when utilized correctly by licensed mental health (MH)/ substance use (SU) providers, the treatment gains begin to unfold. Once the co-occurring comprehensive assessment and education phase of treatment has been completed, clients begin their journey into CBT with motivational interviewing. In this capacity, our clients at NW Family Recovery Solutions understand which stage of change represents their current motivation and confidence for recovery. This is helpful for determining what needs to shift to walk the steps of recovery. In addition, clients will receive evidence-based CBT with our mental health (MH)/ substance use (SU) counselors. In this capacity, three levels are illuminated to help each client learn how their MH symptoms have impacted alcohol and drug use, and vice versa. Level 1 involves learning about the A-B-C process whereby a real-time awareness of antecedents or triggers (e.g., relationship stress) and consequences (e.g., drug use, depression) develop. However, sandwiched between the A and C are dysfunctional and twisted thoughts that are often just below our level of awareness (subconscious) that are illuminated during treatment. Level 2 involves learning about your core beliefs (e.g., I don’t matter, I am worthless, I am inferior, etc.) that have developed across your development that support the dysfunctional thoughts and harmful substance use (SU) behaviors to continue. Level 2 often involves input from family members that have played a primary role in shaping these core beliefs during childhood, as well as taking risks in counseling to dive deep and uncover those core beliefs with your mental health (MH)/SU individual and group counselors. Level 3 focuses on the conditional “If-Then, Because-Then” rules that you have maintained in life that have often fueled the cycle of mental health (MH) illness and substance use (SU) behaviors. These conditional rules (e.g., Because I work hard then I deserve to get high, If she leaves me then it’s all over and it doesn’t matter anymore”) also serve to link and fuel the core beliefs with the dysfunctional thoughts and behaviors. In essence, by understanding all 3 levels you become your own CBT scientist and determine which thoughts, conditional rules, and core beliefs are valid and useful for your recovery and mental health (MH) stabilization, as well as which ones to challenge with your CBT skill set. Once you have this in-the-moment awareness or mindfulness, we will teach you the skills to identify and alter: dysfunctional and twisted thinking conditional rules dysfunctional core beliefs.
  • Co-Occurring Assessment
At NW Family Recovery Solutions, we begin with a comprehensive co-occurring assessment. This step is essential to understand how you arrived at the place you are struggling now, with respect to substance abuse, as well as mental illness. Understanding the predisposing, precipitating, and perpetuating factors are critical for this understanding and how to conceptually break the cycle and reach your full potential. We call this phase of the process the “3 P’s” and includes a comprehensive mental health (MH) and substance use (SU) assessment and analysis. The empirically supported testing batteries (e.g.,MMPI-2, PAI, BAM, etc.) are administered by a licensed psychologist at program enrollment, as well as graduation (pre and post) across IOP, acute residential, and/or inpatient treatment. This is essential to help our providers target the SU and MH issues that have contributed the most to your addiction (predisposing, precipitating, and perpetuating) and which LEVELS to target during your treatment. At graduation, a second co-occurring assessment occurs to track what has changed and identify the areas for future support.
  • Co-Occurring Education
Once the co-occurring assessment and 3 P’s have been completed and visually illuminated at intake, our mental health (MH) and substance use (SU) providers work with each client individually, as each path to MH and SU recovery is unique and YOUR own. One of the educational components of NW Family Recovery Solutions is understanding the tipping point of how and when your volitional control (i.e., your choice to use alcohol and drugs) shifted to a raw physical and primitive state whereby your body and brain now make decisions WITHOUT your consent. It is during this stage of addiction that is most dangerous as the brain BELIEVES these substances are needed for survival. In addition, our co-occurring educational component breaks down the 3 P’s (predisposing, precipitating, and perpetuating) down to the minutia to create your own CHAIN ANALYSIS for substance use (SU) and mental health (MH) symptoms. This work is essential for: understanding how you landed here the impact on your health and loved ones how to transfer automatic control BACK to the driver’s seat.
  • Co-Occurring Group Support
The healing power of the GROUP can not be emphasized more. At NW Family Recovery Solutions, you will become intimately familiar with your peers – whether it’s in IOP, sober living/acute residential, or inpatient treatment at our Yellowstone retreat centre. The GROUP is critical for providing you with genuine feedback on your strengths and vulnerabilities that others see. Even more powerful is when we apply the Johari Window in group which helps you determine YOUR 4 quadrants of self-awareness: OPEN BLIND HIDDEN UNKNOWN These levels of self-awareness is yet another factor that has impacted YOUR relationships, as well as mental health (MH) and substance use (SU) history. Ultimately, our shared goal in group is to illuminate each quadrant of the Johari Window and shift your “self” as close as possible to OPEN, particularly when it pertains to MH and CD issues. Further, we have a peer-to-peer support and accountability model during treatment and following graduation.
