ABOUT THE MCSHIN FOUNDATION
Founded in 2004 and located in Richmond, Va. The McShin Foundation is a private nonprofit facility, which make up about 22 percent of all treatment facilities in Virginia. The center is a peer-to-peer community organization that offers detox and sober living residences to individuals who are struggling with substance use or co-occurring disorders.
According to The McShin Foundation's website, its mission is to "deliver a message of hope to individuals with a substance use disorder and to facilitate their journey to a healthier life."
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to The McShin Foundation's website, residential services are available to individuals who have a history of relapse, are re-entering society from jail, are looking for recovery fro the first time, or are seeking aftercare.
Residents are required to attend multiple 12-step meetings weekly, recovery related and relapse prevention groups daily, acupuncture, faith-based groups, and yoga. Programming also includes peer-to-peer recovery support services, weekly fellowship dinner, recovery worship or church services, and do daily chores. Relapse can result in immediate eviction from housing.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The McShin Foundation's website notes the treatment team includes counselors and substance abuse counselors. Some of the staff members are in recovery.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The McShin Foundations website indicates it manages 175 recovery beds for men and women. The one alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave three out of five stars for accommodations and amenities.

The 17 individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date provided mostly positive feedback. Reviewers praised the peer-to-peer approach, the staff, and treatment effectiveness. “It was great and helped me start a foundation for a more fulfilling, healthy life. Authentic peer to peer support services,” Cliff wrote in a representative review.
"Mcshin provides living examples of recovery possibilities and positive change.It gives people who suffer from addiction the hope we need to come to believe that a better life is available for us," another alum wrote in a representative review.
To date, the 33 people who left Google Reviews for McShin Foundation gave an average of 4.4 out of five stars and positive commentary. Reviewers praised the center and it's staff. Some alumni even noted the center saved their life. "McShin saved my life 16 months ago and I’m still clean today," Jill wrote in a representative review.
